To show you what’s possible, let’s take a look at a recent transformation completed by Bryant Hardy from Hire A Hubby Rangiora.

Case Study: A Complete Modern Kitchen Overhaul in Rangiora

Updating an original build kitchen involves far more than just swapping out old cupboards—it requires rethinking how the entire space functions. Bryant turned a dated, restrictive U-shaped layout into a spacious, light-filled L-shaped kitchen complete with a central entertaining island.

Smart Layout & Material Choices

The goal was to eliminate a heavy, appliance-dominated aesthetic and lean into a seamless, cabinetry-focused design.

• Cabinetry: The client selected a classic Kaboodle Saltbush palette with V-groove profile panels (sourced through our alliance partners at Bunnings Trade), giving the room a timeless yet contemporary feel.
• Benchtops: A sleek 20mm engineered stone benchtop anchors the space and provides durable prep surfaces.
• Integrated Living: To maximise storage space, the standard dishwasher was omitted, and the main fridge was replaced with a discreet, black under-bench unit (with a secondary freezer placed in the garage).

Overcoming Structural & Concrete Challenges

A layout change of this scale comes with technical hurdles. The original sink plumbing was hidden deep under old cabinetry, with the waste pipe cast directly into the concrete floor slab.

To move the new sink over to the central island, Bryant cut a precise channel into the concrete slab, rerouting new plumbing lines beneath the floor before patching, levelling, and prepping it for fresh flooring.

From concrete cutting and trade coordination to cabinetry installation and final trim work, Hire A Hubby Rangiora managed the entire project from end to end.

3 Professional Renovation Tips from Your Local Hubby

If you’re planning a kitchen or home renovation this season, keep these expert tips in mind before taking the plunge:

• Plan Your Plumbing & Electrical Early: Changing a room’s layout (like moving a sink or stove) often means cutting into concrete, opening timber framing, or running new wiring. Decide on your final layout before ordering cabinetry to avoid costly mid-project changes.
• Expert Product Advice & Sourcing: Sourcing the right cabinetry, benchtop materials, and fittings can be overwhelming.  Your Hubby can help guide you on the best products, hardware, and fixtures suited for your specific space, durability needs, and budget.
• Project Management Saves Stress: Coordinating separate plumbers, electricians, plasterers, and painters can quickly become overwhelming. Using a single point of contact who manages all sub-trades keeps your project on time and within budget.

Small Fixes to Major Remodels: What Can We Do for You?

You don't need a massive budget to improve your home. Hire A Hubby offers multi-tiered property services across New Zealand to match your scope and budget:

• Small Projects: Fixing leaking taps, replacing cabinet handles, mounting splashbacks, hanging shelves, and repairing drywall damage.
• Mini Makeovers: Installing new benchtop surfaces, replacing worn flooring, updating interior lighting, or fitting new interior doors.
• Large Renovation Projects: Full kitchen and bathroom overhauls, wall removals (structural timber framing), spatial redesigns, and exterior additions.

Whether you live in Rangiora, Wellington, Hamilton, or Rotorua, your local Hubby is a "professional problem solver" ready to bring your vision to life.
